ABOUT BISTRO BASICS

Ever wonder why simple French dishes in restaurants taste so good? It’s all about technique and in this class, Jamie will take you through how to replicate these results at home. This is the intro class to Jamies Bistro series that will give you a crash course into the fundamentals of French technique. Consider this the start of your French Fundamentals.


WHAT YOU LEARN

This hands on course will dive into what makes French cooking so delicious. This isn’t about fancy French techniques, it’s about the core of what great French food is. Respect for great ingredients, simple techniques to elevate any meal and above all else, the importance of enjoying a wine while you do it!


Jamie will guide you through a three course seasonal menu that will teach you everything you need to know to either pimp out your midweek meals or impress your friends when they come around. Think French onion soup, Escargot, Roast chicken with tarragon pan sauce and even some profiteroles for good measure. 


The three course menu will be dependant on what was at the market that morning so make sure you let us know your dietaries beforehand.


This class will set a basis for the full French Fundamentals series to be announced soon.


HOW IT WORKS


You’ll be working individually to get the most learning possible in the time. Having said that, teamwork makes the dreamwork. This isn’t and exam! It’s going to be a fun night of learning, poor pronunciation and loads of flavour!


Jamie will be on the floor helping guide you through knife work, balancing flavours keeping the vibes high. Some items will be prepped prior to ensure the workload isn’t too stressful but everything will be explained so you can replicate the recipes at home with your take home recipe cards.


Once everything is ready to go, we will sit down and eat together, sharing our learnings and enjoying the fruits of our labour. It will also be a great opportunity to pick Jamie’s brain about his ideas on food, the Masterchef experience and a life in hospitality.
